In accordance with decree n° 2020-1310 of 29 October 2020 laying down the general measures necessary to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic within the framework of the state of health emergency, the Maritime Prefecture of the Mediterranean has taken a new Order number 218/2020 of 2 November 2020.

This order specifies the authorised and unauthorised government directives at sea within the framework of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Are authorised

  • Pleasure vessels or those holding a ship's licence, operated as part of professional activities and also for training, instruction or maintenance purposes,
  • The practice of professional and elite athletes,
  • The practice of sports activities by schoolchildren and extracurricular activities,
  • Sports activities participating in university education.

Are forbidden

  • The practice of water sports and leisure boating (kite-surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, recreational scuba diving etc),
  • Event nautical displays.

Whether at sea or ashore, these provisions aim to actively combat the spread of Covid-19 by restricting all non-essential travel. This also helps to preserve sea rescue resources, dedicating them more specifically to potential health interventions related to the ongoing epidemic.

The people concerned will need to be in possession of the sea travel permit, which can be downloaded by clicking the button below.
