The port of Saint Florent has taken the initiative to create a university diploma in «Pleasure Port Management and Environment».

The use and design of marinas have evolved considerably in recent years. They are no longer limited to their purely technical function, but are now designed as a structuring facility, thereby helping to revitalise a part of the coastline, with increasing environmental consideration.

Due to increasing demand for berths for pleasure craft between the 1960s-1970s and the year 2000, marinas have been developed at a sustained pace in recent decades (1980s-1990s), particularly on the Mediterranean coast (Corsica is no exception to this observation; most of its ports were built during this period).

Port management bodies (municipalities, chambers of commerce and industry, private entities) are seeking staff capable of analysing and resolving the various issues related to the management of a marina, which involves a wide range of diverse duties (e.g. waste management, analysis and control of discharges, environmental management, environmental standards and regulations, economic activities, marketing). Corsica currently has 27 marinas spread across its coastline. Whether financial or environmental, the stakes involved in the construction or extension of a marina (in Corsica's case) are no longer limited to nautical considerations.

However, to date, no training covers this role. The introduction of this University Diploma in «Marina Management and Environment» (DU GPPE) aims to meet this demand and will be the first of its kind nationally.
