Reminder of the history:
July 14 is the national day of the French Republic. It is a public holiday in France.
It was instituted by the Raspail Law of July 6, 1880, to commemorate the taking of the Bastille of July 14, 1789, symbol of the end of the absolute monarchy, as well as the Feast of the Federation of 1790, symbol of the union of the Nation.
The law does not mention which event is commemorated: «The Republic adopts July 14 as an annual national holiday».
