Wearing a mask made compulsory in the most frequented public places

A high population density in some public places makes it difficult to respect the rules of distancing. Under these conditions, wearing the mask will limit the transmission of the virus.

After consultation with the mayors concerned, the Prefect of Upper Corsica decided to make it mandatory to wear the mask for people aged 11 or over (excluding people with disabilities with a medical certificate) until 31 August 2020 in the public space characterized by a high concentration of population on the territory of Upper Corsica.

In Saint-Florent, wearing the mask is mandatory:

– During the so-called “port market” zone between 18H and 22H.

The use of masks in areas with a high population density complements the current obligation to wear the mask in confined spaces that receive the public.

These places were determined after observations by the police, the gendarmerie and after exchanges with the mayors of the communes concerned.

Reminder of prevention tips for all:

  • wear the mask;
  • respect a distance of at least one metre from others;
  • Wash your hands regularly or use a hydro-alcoholic solution.
  • cough or sneeze in your elbow or handkerchief;
  • avoid touching the face;
  • Salute without shaking hands and stop kissing;
  • use a single-use tissue;
  • in the event of symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 disease (fatigue, fever, muscle pain, cough, etc.), stay at home and avoid contact.

The scrupulous application of all barrier gestures is more than ever recommended. By protecting yourself, you are also protecting the most vulnerable (the elderly, people with a chronic disease, etc.).

State services are fully mobilized to ensure compliance with these measures during this summer period, when the island’s population is steadily growing. An increase in contamination and a massive influx of patients would saturate hospital capacity.

It is recalled that failure to wear the mask will result in a fine of 135 euros.
