For the third year in a row, Saint-Florent marina hosted the final stage of the Corsica Classic on Sunday evening. Organised for the 9e This magnificent Tall Ships regatta in the Mediterranean has completed a circumnavigation of Corsica, following a dream route between Ajaccio and Saint-Florent since August 24th.
Are you skipping «Mister Fips»?», a magnificent vintage wooden sailing boat and in traditional spirit, Yann Le Bunetel has been a regular at the regatta for five years. He shares his experience.
What does the Corsica Classic represent for you?
This is the first regatta of the winter season and a superb itinerary through seven ports along the Corsican coast. It's also an opportunity to introduce the island's inhabitants to these magnificent «grand old ladies,» sometimes a century old, who take us from port to port. I've been participating in the Corsica Classic for five years, and I realise how much Corsica offers sublime waters and gulfs that are perfectly suited to sailing.
Why have you been participating in the regatta for five years?
It all started with a meeting with the organiser, Thibault Assante. His project to hold a regatta in Corsica really interested me. Since then, the Corsica Classic has allowed me to discover new towns at each stage. Through partnerships with shops, restaurants and the great chefs at each stop, I've learned to appreciate local specialties and discover each place that has hosted us.
What is your view on the Saint-Florent stage?
For three years, it has been a magnificent extension of the Corsica Classic. The Saint-Florent stage allowed us to prolong the adventure and discover a place that has no equal: the gulf that shelters the village and the port. It is now part of the race. And we come back there with great pleasure every year.
