The 14th of July is the national holiday of the French Republic. It is a public holiday in France.
It was established by the Raspail Law of , to commemorate the storming of the Bastille on , symbol of the end of absolute monarchy, as well as the Federation Festival of 1790, symbol of the union of the Nation.
The law does not mention which event is being commemorated: «The Republic adopts 14 July as the annual national holiday.».
