Corsica Classic 2018 - Port de Saint Florent

For the third consecutive year, the marina of Saint-Florent hosted on Sunday evening the final stage of the Corsica Classic. Organised for the ninth edition, this magnificent regatta of old rigs in the Mediterranean has toured Corsica via a dream course between Ajaccio and Saint-Florent since August 24th.

Skipper of the «Mister Fips», a beautiful vintage wooden sailboat and true to tradition, Yann Le Bunetel has been a regular competitor in the regatta for five years. He shares his experience.

For me, the Corsica Classic represents a pure celebration of sailing's traditions. It's a chance to witness magnificent, often historic, yachts gracing the spectacular waters around Corsica, a true spectacle of skill and elegance.

This is the first regatta of the winter season and a superb route through seven ports along Corsican shores. It is also an opportunity for the islanders to discover these beautiful «old ladies,» sometimes centenarians, who take us from port to port. I have been taking part in the Corsica Classic for five years, and I realise how much Corsica offers beautiful bodies of water and bays that are perfect for sailing.

Why did you participate in the regatta for five years?

It all began with a meeting with the organiser, Thibault Assante. His plan to hold a regatta in Corsica interested me greatly. Since then, the Corsica Classic has allowed me to discover new towns at every stage. Through partnerships with the shops, restaurateurs and chefs at each stopover, I've come to appreciate local specialities and discover every place that has welcomed us.

What is your opinion of the Saint-Florent stage?

For three years, it has been a magnificent extension of Corsica Classic. The stage at Saint-Florent allowed us to continue the adventure and discover a place that has no equal: the gulf that houses the village and the port. It is now part of the race. And we return with great pleasure every year.
