Awareness of boaters to the alien network Corsica

The hosts of CPIE Bastia were this afternoon on the beach of the Roya and on the Port de Plaisance of Saint-Florent to sensitize boaters to invasive marine species.

The Alien Corse awareness campaign aims to make known, to beach users and boaters, invasive marine species and how to report them. It is supported by the Office de l’Environnement de la Corse.

The main species present in Corsica are:

  • the flat crab of the sea urchins which feed on the same resources as the sea urchins and prevent their development,
  • caulerpa cylindracea or sea grape because this seaweed resembles grape kernels and colonizes almost all types of substrates.  To avoid its spread, it must not be thrown back into the sea if you are going up with your anchor ! It must be kept and thrown in the trash when you return to land.

You can find the list of other invasive species on the Alien Corse network website: http://www.ffessm-corse.com/reseau-alien-corse or on their Alien Corse network Facebook page.

Do not hesitate to inform them if you see them at this e-mail address: alien-corse@oec.fr or via the Facebook page of Réseau Alien Corse.
