Destroyed by a fire in June 2014, the Conca d'Oru, the SNSM's flagship, assigned to the Saint-Florent station, has been replaced and has officially returned to sea following traditional blessing and naming ceremonies, attended by numerous civilian and military dignitaries. The wife of the mayor of Saint Florent, Mrs. Pascale Olmeta, and Army General Vincent Lanata, are the godmother and godfather of the new vessel.

A little gem costing €700,000, financed primarily by the Corsican Territorial Collectivity, the Department, and the SNSM, as recalled by Xavier de La Gorce, the national president of the SNSM. This ultra-modern lifeboat was custom-designed to adapt to the region's sailing conditions. «This boat is self-righting, meaning that once it's upside down, if the doors are closed, it automatically returns to its original position, upright,» explains Daniel Muller, an SNSM rescuer from Saint-Florent. All SNSM volunteers in Corsica came to attend this event. Aboard their lifeboats based in Bastia, Macinaggio, Ajaccio, Propriano, and Calvi. All were on parade to celebrate the latest arrival: the Conca d’Oru of Saint-Florent.

It is to the wife of the mayor of Saint Florent and to army general Vincent Lanata, former chief of staff of the air force, a regular at the marina for 50 years, godmother and godfather of the new Conca d’Oru that the SNSM wanted to pay tribute to once again.

A role that both welcomed with honour after smashing the traditional champagne bottle on the bow of the Conca d’Oru. Previously, Georges Nicoli, parish priest of Saint-Florent, had called for prayer while christening the SNSM unit, which has carried out some thirty interventions since it began sailing around the Saint-Florent marina.

This beautiful day of the SNSM festival continued with a sortie of all the lifeboats, and their guests who joined the Abeille Flandre, moored in the gulf, for a second ceremony at sea.
