The boat «7th Continent», a beautiful schooner 24 metres long and 7.5 metres wide, will be moored at the honour quay of our port on Thursday 9th July and Friday 10th July.

The crew of the «7th The continent will go to meet the populationto raise awareness of the issues surrounding the preservation of oceans and marine biodiversity.

This campaign forms part of a wider effort to combat pollution. 80 % of plastic pollution in the ocean stems from human activity on land. It is estimated that 10% of the 350 million tonnes of global plastic production ends up in the ocean. Plastic does not biodegrade in the natural environment. Large pieces of waste quickly break down into micro- and nanometre-sized particles, containing toxic chemical additives, heavy metals, etc.

It is urgent to change behaviour through prevention and public awareness campaigns.

The public will be offered workshops on observing microparticles to understand the problem of ocean plasticisation, as well as activities that recall good sorting practices and propose concrete solutions to combat marine plastic pollution.
Visitors will also be treated to a tour of the schooner 7th Continent with a screening of the film « Clear the decks, everyone! » made by Sophie Lemoine, then a cook deckhand on one of our missions.
